    Program Highlights

Title: Are there predictors of NCLEX-RN success?

Presenter: Bonny Kehm, PhD, RN, Faculty Program Director for BS & MS Programs in Nursing at Excelsior College

Description: The purpose of this research was to examine the variables that predict first-time pass rate of the NCLEX-RN by ADN students. Such examination would assist schools of nursing by formatting relevant admission criteria, identifying and intervening with students at risk of failing, and providing needed academic support to increase the likelihood of passing the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt.

Research Question:  Among Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students, what is the relationship between academic variables (cumulative GPA, TEAS test score, and ATI test score) and successful first-time passing of the NCLEX-RN?

  • Student Scholarships Awarded

    Nursing Student Scholarship Announcement
The Board of Directors of the Tau Kappa At-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International is pleased to announce the awarding of the first Chapter scholarships to recognize undergraduate and/or graduate nursing students at Excelsior College and SUNY Empire State College. Students were nominated by the Faculty from their respective schools based on academic excellence and exemplary student engagement and selected by the Dean to receive the $250 scholarship.
    The following are the Awardees.
Ruby T. Payne – Excelsior College RN-MS program
It was noted by Faculty that she “has achieved high honors in a rigorous nursing program while managing personal, professional and community responsibilities”. She has been in nursing for 38 years, beginning as an LPN, including working in maternal-child health, quality, leadership and risk management. Ruby states that her “long term goal is to continue to contribute to the nursing profession and encourage all nurses to obtain an advanced degree”.
Stephen J. Alexanian – SUNY Empire State College RN-BSN program
He has worked over the last 20 years in acute care medical-surgical nursing and critical care settings and believes that obtaining the BSN will complement perfectly the technical skills obtained in practice. The support of “family, friends and employer” have helped him “to find balance in life” and he looks forward to continuing to expand his knowledge and understanding of the nursing profession and make meaningful contributions to nursing and his health care team colleagues.
Please join us in congratulating these outstanding students and wishing them well in their nursing careers and on the journey of lifelong learning.
